A Whale Tail......... No way... :) :) :) Ok so you must know that I took these while on the mainland. They are California river otters. (So I am told) A total of 5 of them frolicking in a tiny lake. They were sooooo cute but very quick constantly diving to pick up small fish and weeds for breakfast. It was amazing to me since the only otters I had ever seen were in the ocean and not in fresh water (land locked) streams. I could have stayed and watched them for hours.

Beautiful wildlife photographs, Renee. I have video of those animals, but no stills. They are very scarce here, and in fact were re-introduced a few years ago after being extirpated from the area for several years. I came to get the video by being present at one of the re-introduction sites.

I know what Mr. Otter is thinking...."rubadubdub - 3 otters in a tub!" LOL sorry - could not help myself. Cute critters!

Love the second one especially with just the tip of the flipper showing.
I'm so happy to hear that your folks are not requiring so much care. Looking forward to seeing you when you come to the mainland. Just let me know and we will make connections.

What a wonderful gift to get to see these river otters up close and personal. I used to study sea otters for over six years of my life. They certainly do know how to enjoy life.

Thank you for visiting my blog. You got what have eluded me thru years, great photos of a sea otter. You mentioned these were in California if I read right. Forgive my ignorance, but are there sea otters in Hawaii? Not a far fetch, there are iguanas and turtles in the Galapagos. I do not recall seen iguanas in Hawaii either.
